Kevin Bacon says a hike with his daughter, Sosie Bacon, and her partner, Scoot McNairy, turned into a bee attack this week when a swarm went after him and left the other two alone. The Footloose star recounted the moment in an Instagram video posted Thursday, then asked Sosie to recreate the scene from memory.
“Scoot was in the front, Sosie was in the middle, and I was holding up the rear,” Bacon said in the video. He said McNairy pointed out a beehive to the left, and Sosie warned him, “Dad, hey, there’s a beehive. Watch out.” Bacon said the bees “went full on after me,” stinging him “everywhere, including underneath my shirt.”
That is where the story got stranger. Bacon said his 34-year-old daughter did not catch the attack on camera, so he asked her to act it out instead. The video then cut to Sosie Bacon swatting at imaginary bees with her hat and ripping off her sweater as she shouted, “There’s bees in there.”
Bacon captioned the clip, “The bees attack KB by [Sosie Bacon],” and Kyra Sedgwick jumped into the comments with “Soooooo gooood!” followed by laughing emojis. Sosie replied, “It was nothing more nothing less than that very dance.”
The incident comes as Bacon, 67, and Sedgwick are approaching nearly 40 years of marriage after meeting on the set of the TV movie “Lemon Sky” in 1987 and marrying one year later. The couple welcomed their son, Travis, in 1989 and Sosie three years after that. Now the family is set to share the screen for the first time in the upcoming comedy horror film “Family Movie.”
The SXSW synopsis for “Family Movie” says it follows a family trying to make a low-budget horror film before finding a real dead body on set. For Bacon, the bee swarm may have been brief, but it gave him another family story to tell — and, this time, a performance his daughter could not resist replaying.
