The Detroit Tigers lost to the Minnesota Twins 4-2 on Tuesday night, dropping their third straight game and falling behind 2-0 in the four-game series. Framber Valdez is scheduled to start for Detroit on Wednesday night at Target Field in Minneapolis.
Valdez, the high-priced lefty the Tigers brought in as a free-agent acquisition, will be making his third start at 7:40 p.m. ET against Bailey Ober. Detroit enters with Valdez at 1-0 and a 0.75 ERA, while Ober is listed at 0-0 with a 6.75 ERA.
The loss left Detroit with an offense that has been as robust as a wet noodle, a flat stretch that has matched the team’s slide through the first two games of the series. The Tigers have not only dropped three in a row, they now need Wednesday night to keep the matchup from slipping further out of reach.

That is what makes Valdez’s start the pivot point. He has paid off so far, and Detroit needs him to do it again before the series turns into a chase instead of a contest.
