Two people were killed Sunday night in a five-vehicle crash on westbound Interstate 80 near milepost 104, shutting the road for several hours as investigators worked to determine what caused the wreck.

The crash happened around 10:30 p.m. and involved a semi-truck along with four other vehicles. Two victims, from separate cars, died at the scene. Two other people were taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Their identities had not been publicly released.

The closure stretched across westbound I-80 from Salt Lake County into Tooele County, near the Salt Lake-Tooele County border, before all lanes were reopened. The cause was still unclear as officials continued their review.

For drivers, the road is open again. For the families of the two people who died, the night ended at the scene, and investigators are still trying to piece together how five vehicles came together in a crash that left the interstate blocked for hours.
