With 52 days left before the first game of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, Lay’s is rolling out World Cup-themed chip flavors in the U.S. and a string of other countries, turning the countdown into a snack aisle campaign with a global reach.
In the United States, the lineup includes Wavy French Onion Soup, Brazilian Style Garlic Sauce and Argentinian Style Steak with Chimichurri. The first two are new for the U.S., while the steak-and-chimichurri flavor first appeared last August in a collaboration with Lionel Messi. Lay’s is also the tournament’s official snack sponsor, a role that gives the brand a direct tie to soccer’s biggest stage and a reason to push limited-edition flavors while attention is building ahead of kickoff.
The international menu is even broader. Brazil is getting Camembert, Mexican Taco and Brazilian Picanha. South Africa is set for Canadian Grilled Buttered Lobster, Nashville Hot Chicken and Mexican Mango Chilli Salsa. Thailand will see English-Style Fish & Chips, Brazilian-Style Spicy Salsa and German-Style Curry Ketchup. Poland is getting Polish Kielbasa, Argentinian Grilled Steak and Italian Pizza Margherita, along with Mexican Beef Burrito Doritos and what appears to be a Blood Sausage flavor and a Dutch Fries with Peanut Curry Sauce flavor.
The rollout also shows how far Lay’s is leaning into the World Cup theme beyond the U.S. The brand released three flavors for the previous tournament in 2022, but this time it is pushing multiple variations across several markets at once. The international flavor list was identified by @candyhunting, leaving the exact retail footprint in each country a little murky even as the packaging and naming suggest a coordinated global launch.
That gap matters because the promotion is far clearer than the distribution. Lay’s has announced the flavors in enough places to stir interest, but not every market detail is fully pinned down. For now, the message is simple: as the World Cup approaches, Lay’s is using national team associations, regional tastes and one especially familiar Messi-linked flavor to make its chips part of the tournament conversation before the first whistle is even blown.
