The Chevy Silverado LT Trail Boss has lost its standard engine option, and the TurboMax turbocharged 2.7L I4 L3B is no longer available to order in the trim. Buyers now have to pick from the 5.3L V8 L84, the 6.2L V8 L87 or the Duramax 3.0L I6 LZ0 turbodiesel.
Until now, the TurboMax served as the default powertrain for the Chevy Silverado LT Trail Boss. As of the article, roughly 215 TurboMax-equipped LT Trail Boss units remain available across the United States, and that version will disappear from dealer lots once those trucks sell through.
GM is winding down the 2026 Chevy Silverado 1500 model year and preparing for the 2027 redesign, which will bring a full overhaul of both the Chevy Silverado and GMC Sierra. The order change appears to be part of that late-stage transition, and the LT Trail Boss is being repositioned with higher-output engines only.
GM has not publicly explained why the TurboMax was removed specifically from the LT Trail Boss, leaving the move as one more sign that the current 2026 Silverado 1500 cycle is entering its final phase. For buyers who wanted the Trail Boss with the smaller turbo four-cylinder, the answer is already decided: that configuration is being phased out now, and it will be gone from the market when the remaining trucks are sold.
