U.S. Sen. Mark R. Warner and his wife, Lisa Collis, said Monday morning that their daughter, Madison Warner, has died at age 36 after a decades-long battle with juvenile diabetes and other health issues.
In a statement, the couple said they are “heartbroken beyond words” and described Madison as someone who filled their lives with love and laughter. They said her absence leaves “an immeasurable void,” and asked for privacy as they navigate the loss.
Madison Warner was the daughter of the Virginia senator and Collis, and her death closes a long fight that stretched across much of her life. The family did not provide additional details beyond the statement released Monday morning. The loss is immediate and deeply personal for Warner, who is facing it in public even as the family asks not to be drawn into it.
For now, the question is not what comes next politically, but how the Warner family gets through the days ahead after a death that ended a decades-long struggle and left them mourning a daughter they said brought love and laughter into their lives.
