Active tornado warnings were in effect in the Quad Cities area Wednesday evening as another round of severe weather moved toward the region, with a Tornado Watch in place until 9 p.m. Wednesday.
That watch was the third severe weather watch in the last 24 hours for the Quad Cities. The area had already been under a tornado watch the previous day and a severe thunderstorm watch in the middle of the night, a stretch that kept the region under near-continuous weather alerts.
The window for severe weather was expected to open around 6 p.m. Wednesday, and forecasters said storms could bring large hail, strong winds and a few tornadoes later in the evening. For people in the Quad Cities, that meant the most dangerous part of the day was still ahead when the warnings were already active.
The sequence also showed how quickly the threat had stacked up. Three severe weather watches in 24 hours is not routine, and the repeated alerts pointed to a volatile setup that could turn quickly once storms developed. The latest Tornado Watch tied the earlier watch days together into one extended stretch of concern.
What mattered next was whether the storms would fire as expected after 6 p.m. and whether any of them would produce tornadoes before the watch expired at 9 p.m. Wednesday. For now, the Quad Cities were entering the part of the evening when the weather could change fastest.
