Adrian Del Castillo drove in five runs and sent Arizona past Baltimore 8-5 on Wednesday when he broke a tie with a two-run homer in the 10th inning. The Diamondbacks finished off the Orioles after Juan Morillo worked a scoreless bottom of the inning for his first save.
Del Castillo also hit a two-run triple in the third inning and added an RBI in the seventh when his chopper off Grant Wolfram’s glove let Ketel Marte score. His 10th-inning drive, his first home run of the season, came after Geraldo Perdomo moved automatic runner Corbin Carroll to third with a sacrifice, and Nolan Arenado later added an insurance single.
That was enough to back a game Arizona kept forcing open and Baltimore kept pulling back into. Ryan Thompson handled a 1-2-3 ninth for the Diamondbacks, but the Orioles retied it in the seventh on Leody Taveras’ RBI pinch single before Del Castillo answered again in extra innings. Jeremiah Jackson homered and drove in three runs for Baltimore, which dropped consecutive games for the first time since a three-game sweep at Pittsburgh from April 3-5.
The win capped a 6-3 trip for Arizona through New York, Philadelphia and Baltimore. The Diamondbacks now head home for a six-game homestand Friday, while the Orioles open a seven-game road trip Thursday.
