Hannah Stuelke will have to go the free-agent route to the WNBA after going undrafted Monday in the league’s three-round, 45-pick draft. The former Iowa star still has a path to the league, but it will not come through a draft selection.
The three-time All-Big Ten selection recently wrapped up her career at Iowa, where she finished 14th all time in scoring and tied for fifth all time in rebounds. She started 96 of her 136 games as a Hawkeye, a run that made her one of the most productive players in the program’s recent history.
Stuelke is still trying to become the 21st Hawkeye to reach the WNBA through the draft or free agency, and that chase now shifts to the next stage. Her résumé began long before college, when she put together a state player of the year career at Cedar Rapids Washington.
The result leaves Stuelke in a familiar kind of waiting game that many college stars face after draft night: the door to the league is still open, but the entry point has changed. For Iowa, the larger question is whether one of its most accomplished recent players can turn an undrafted start into a roster spot.
