A frontal boundary moving through the Sarasota, Florida, region will bring windy conditions, scattered showers and cooler temperatures through Wednesday, with rain most likely to affect the Tuesday morning commute. Forecasters put the chance of rain at 40% for Tuesday morning, then expect showers to pick up in the afternoon before tapering off at night.

The National Weather Service said temperatures will drop noticeably on Tuesday, with highs reaching only the mid-70s. Most of the rain is expected inland and along the east coast, but Sarasota still could see enough wet weather to slow the commute and keep the day feeling unsettled.

For boaters, the change will be even more immediate. A Small Craft Advisory remains in effect through Thursday afternoon as strong northeast winds push water conditions to 3-5 foot waves. That will make for rougher travel on the water and a more difficult stretch for anyone planning to head out along the coast.

The system is part of a frontal boundary moving through southwest Florida, and it is set to disrupt the kind of spring weather Sarasota usually sees this time of year. After Wednesday’s few scattered showers, conditions should slowly improve on Thursday, but the National Weather Service said it will keep monitoring the system and update the timing and intensity of the rain, wind and cooler air as the front passes through.
