Dan Vladar got the start in net for the Flyers on Tuesday night against the Carolina Hurricanes at home, another sign that Philadelphia is leaning on its primary goaltender as the season tightens.
Vladar has taken on that role since signing with the Flyers as a free agent in 2025, and the numbers explain why. He is 28-14-7 with a 2.44 goals-against average and a.905 save percentage in 51 games, and he set a franchise high with 36 quality starts in a single season. He also stopped 27 of 28 shots in Saturday’s 7-1 win over the Winnipeg Jets, a performance that helped keep the Flyers moving in the right direction.
The Flyers are fighting for playoff positioning late in the season, which is why they have kept starting Vladar frequently while trying to manage his workload. That balance matters because Carolina is usually a tough offensive team, and this is the kind of game that can sharpen the race in the final stretch.
The real question now is how long Philadelphia can keep getting this kind of work from Vladar without overextending him, because every start carries more weight from here.
