The can clinch a playoff berth on April 6 and lock in a first-round series against the if they defeat the in any fashion at 7 p.m. ET.

The same game carries even more weight for Carolina, which can clinch the Eastern Conference title if it gets at least one point against Philadelphia. The matchup is one of several postseason races on a busy night that also includes the , , , and chasing different paths into the 2026 NHL postseason.

Philadelphia would secure Metropolitan 3 with a win of any kind, and a victory would also put the Flyers in Metropolitan 2 and set up a first-round meeting with Pittsburgh. For Carolina, even a loss in overtime or a shootout would be enough to clinch the conference crown.

That is why the 7 p.m. ET faceoff matters so much now, with four days left in the regular season and little margin for error across the league. The top three teams in each division and the next two highest-place finishers in each conference reach the playoffs, which leaves several clubs still trying to finish off their work before the bracket is set.

Elsewhere, Buffalo can clinch the Atlantic Division title if it beats Chicago in regulation and Tampa Bay does not win in regulation against Detroit. If that happens, Montreal and Tampa Bay would lock in an Atlantic 2 vs. Atlantic 3 first-round series. Later in the night, Anaheim can clinch a playoff berth if San Jose defeats Nashville in any fashion at 8 p.m. ET, and Los Angeles can clinch a berth if it beats Seattle at 9:30 p.m. ET and San Jose beats Nashville in regulation.

The standings math leaves Philadelphia in a rare spot: one result can secure a berth, a matchup and a better seed all at once. The Flyers do not have to wait for help to know where they stand. A win over Carolina settles it.
