A Silver Alert has been issued in Dane County for Jerry Charles, a 74-year-old Madison man who was last seen at 8 a.m. Monday near the 2300 block of Allied Drive. Madison police are asking anyone who spots him to call 608-255-2345.
Officials said Charles is 6 feet tall, weighs 203 pounds and has gray or balding hair and a gray beard. He was last seen wearing a thin black jacket, black pants and brown shoes, and those who reported him missing were not sure whether he had a hat on.
The alert was issued after he was reported missing. Officials said Charles has dementia and tends to keep walking because he does not know where he is, a detail that raises the stakes for searchers in the hours after he disappeared.
That is why the alert matters now: Charles may keep moving without understanding where he is going, and police are relying on the public to help close the gap between the last confirmed sighting and wherever he may be now.
