The Chicago Sky added Skylar Diggins on Saturday, signing the veteran guard to a two-year contract as part of a busy overhaul of the Chicago Sky roster. Diggins is moving from Seattle to Chicago in free agency and enters her 12th WNBA season.
The move gives Chicago the veteran point guard help it has been seeking after last season, when the team hoped Courtney Vandersloot could fill that role. Diggins, who will turn 36 in August, was an All-Star last season and still produced at a high level in 2025, averaging at least 15 points and six assists while appearing in at least 20 games. She was one of only two players to hit those marks.
Her arrival comes after a season in which she helped lead the Seattle Storm to a near-upset of the eventual champion Las Vegas Aces in the first round of the playoffs. Seattle also lost Nneka Ogwumike and Brittney Sykes in free agency, and Gabby Williams was expected to find a new home this offseason, with the Golden State Valkyries making a strong push for her.

Chicago's roster changes on Saturday did not stop with Diggins. Azurá Stevens also joined the team, returning after three seasons with the Sky and a title in 2021 before leaving for Los Angeles. The Sky also traded away a 2028 first-round pick for Jacy Sheldon, the No. 5 pick in the 2024 draft, who has averaged 6.3 points and 2.2 assists over two seasons.
The flurry of moves shows Chicago is trying to stay in the race rather than start over after parting ways with Angel Reese in a recent trade. The decision to add Diggins and deal for Sheldon makes that intent plain: the Sky are betting on veterans, draft capital and immediate production, not patience.
For Diggins, the move gives her a new team at a point in her career when fewer point guards still control a game the way she does. For Chicago, it is a clear statement that the rebuild will wait.
