The Washington Mystics traded Jacy Sheldon on Saturday and received a 2028 first-round pick in return. The move comes after Sheldon played two games for Washington before an injury sidelined her.
Sheldon had averaged 7.5 points per game before the trade, including her time with the Connecticut Sun. For the Mystics, the deal deepens a draft stockpile that now includes three picks in the first round of the 2026 draft, one pick in the 2027 draft and two picks in the 2028 draft.
The trade also underscores how quickly Washington has shifted from adding Sheldon to turning her into future draft capital. She was on the roster long enough to appear in only two games, and her injury left the team deciding whether to wait or move on, with the front office choosing the pick.
What comes next for the Mystics is clear: they enter the next three drafts with unusual flexibility, while Sheldon leaves Washington having made a brief stop in the rotation and then becoming part of a longer-term plan.
