has closed all of its Kansas City metro restaurant locations, removing the Utah-based Hawaiian-style chain from a market it entered in 2022. Notices posted at at least two sites said the company enjoyed its time in the Kansas City area but had made the difficult decision to close its doors, with April 10 listed as the final day of operation.

The closures affect locations in Blue Springs, Lee’s Summit, Liberty and Overland Park, ending a run that had put mo bettahs on both sides of the state line. The Kansas City-area restaurants were also removed from the company’s website, a sign the pullback is complete rather than a temporary pause.

The chain had moved into the metro only a few years ago, opening its first Kansas City-area location in 2022 and then adding multiple restaurants as it tried to build a footprint in a market already familiar with , the company it had positioned itself against. For a while, the expansion suggested there was room for more than one Hawaiian-style fast-casual player in the region.

That bet now appears to have failed in Kansas City, even as Mo Bettahs remains in business elsewhere. The chain continues to operate dozens of locations in Utah, Idaho, Nevada, Texas and Oklahoma, leaving the Kansas City market as the outlier in an otherwise growing footprint.

What remains unanswered is why the company chose to leave a metro where it had invested in multiple stores on both sides of the state line. The notice on the doors gave no reason beyond the decision itself, and for customers who had only recently seen the brand arrive, April 10 became the end of a short and costly experiment.
