Hunter Brown’s season hit an early snag Sunday morning, when the Astros placed the right-hander on the 15-day injured list after a setback during a routine throwing session between starts. Brown, who had made two starts this season, felt something was not right on Friday, stopped the workout and told manager Joe Espada.
Brown last pitched against the Red Sox last Tuesday and threw just under 80 pitches, so the injury designation comes before he had settled into a rhythm. He was checked out in Sacramento on Sunday and then flew back to Houston for further examinations with team doctors.
For Brown, the move is the first injured-list stint of his career. For the Astros, it is another blow in a 2025 season already shaped by serious injuries, and it comes early enough in the new campaign to force another quick adjustment to the pitching plan.

The club called up Christian Roa from Sugar Land to help cover the loss, and Espada said Cody Bolton will start Monday night in Denver against the Rockies. That leaves Houston trying to patch together innings while waiting to learn how long Brown will be out, and whether a routine throwing day has turned into something that alters the shape of his season.
