Tyson Fury weighed in at 19st 2lb on Friday ahead of his tyson fury fight against Arslanbek Makhmudov at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, coming in three pounds heavier than the Canadian heavyweight but far lighter than at points earlier in his career. The 36-year-old stepped on the scales in London and then shared a short seven-second face-off with Makhmudov before Saturday's bout.
Fury said he wanted to make a statement after returning to the ring following two consecutive defeats to Oleksandr Usyk in 2024, the first losses of his career. “Whoever has the belts I want to get them back. I was undefeated for 17 years and took it for granted,” he said, adding that he was “the hunter” again and wanted to become a three-time world champion.
The weight itself told part of the story. Fury was the same as he had been for his last fight in the United Kingdom in December 2022, when he beat Derek Chisora, and well below the career-heaviest 20st 1lb he carried for his rematch with Usyk in December 2024. He has also said he came in “nice and light and lean” after training camp in Pattaya, Thailand, a setting that seemed to suit him.

Weight has followed Fury throughout his career, from the years when he ballooned to around 28st during his hiatus from boxing between 2016 and 2018 to the more measured frame he brought to Friday's weigh-in. Boxing commentator Steve Bunce said it was a “decent, comfortable, happy weight” for Fury and suggested he looked as if he had been training in the heat for a long time, while also saying the fighter may have started camp at 23 or 24 stone and trimmed down gradually.

That leaves Saturday's fight at Tottenham with a familiar kind of pressure. Fury has come back from defeat, talked about taking his record for granted and asked to be judged again on the same terms as before. Now he has the weight, the words and the chance to prove the comeback is more than talk.
