Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has become the latest teenage cricketer to force a national conversation. The 15-year-old Rajasthan Royals left-hander smashed a 15-ball half-century against Chennai Super Kings in IPL 2026, one of the fastest fifties in league history, and the blast has now pushed his name into talk of India’s next white-ball tour of England.
Michael Vaughan said India should consider taking Sooryavanshi on the tour, arguing that time around the international setup would help him even if he did not make the playing XI. The case for moving him quickly is obvious: he is already eligible for senior selection under ICC rules after turning 15, and his rise has been rapid enough to invite comparisons with Sachin Tendulkar, who made his India debut at 16 years and 205 days.
That comparison has only grown louder because Sooryavanshi was not just a flash in the franchise spotlight. He had already made headlines in youth cricket with a historic 175 in the Under-19 World Cup final, a score that marked him as more than a one-innings story. The IPL knock against Chennai only widened the debate over whether India should fast-track him or let him keep developing in domestic and franchise cricket.

Ravichandran Ashwin has come down on the side of caution. He publicly advised against rushing Sooryavanshi into international cricket, saying he has decades ahead in his career and does not need immediate pressure to prove himself at the international level. That view reflects the split around him now: one camp sees a player ready to be introduced to the senior environment, while the other sees a teenager who has already done enough to justify patience.
The next step will be decided away from the noise of the record books. If India do take him to England, it would signal a willingness to test a rare prospect early. If they do not, Sooryavanshi will still be only 15, still eligible, and still carrying a record that has made him impossible to ignore.
