Boxing News update on Jake Paul, who says new jaw scans in days will help determine if he can fight again after a broken jaw.

Boxing News: Jake Paul says jaw scans could decide whether he can fight again

says he will get new jaw scans in a couple of days, and the results could determine whether he is ever cleared to fight again. The 28-year-old said he is five months removed from the broken jaw he suffered in a fight against and is still waiting for doctors to tell him how the bone has healed.

“I’m getting some new scans here in a couple of days of the jaw to get an update on the healing process,” Paul said. “We’ll see what my doctors say. I think I’ll be able to get more accurate timeframe or can I even fight again? That is definitely in the realm of possibilities of things.”

That uncertainty matters now because Paul said there is a chance he cannot box again. “Most definitely [a chance I can’t fight again],” he said, adding that recovery depends on how the bone heals. He also said there is a tooth missing and he may need an implanted tooth of some sort, another issue that could affect how quickly he moves forward.

Paul’s injury came after the knockout loss to Joshua, and it forced a reshuffle of his plans. A previously scheduled matchup against Gervonta “Tank” Davis was scrapped after the Joshua fight was booked. Now Paul says he needs medical clearance before he can spar, even as he keeps training with mitt work and stays in shape.

There is friction in the story that his own words make plain: his doctor does not want him to fight again, while Paul says he is not finished. “Definitely my doctor Arman, he doesn’t want me to fight again,” he said. But he added, “Those thoughts have definitely come up but I’m not done,” and said injuries are part of any sport. For now, the next real marker is the scan in a couple of days, which should give Paul and his doctors a clearer view of whether his boxing news is heading toward a comeback or an end point he has not yet accepted.
