A tree fell on utility lines in Mount Pleasant early Thursday, knocking out power to about 1,120 customers and blocking Highway 41 southbound while crews worked to clear the road.
Dominion Energy told News 2 at 7:18 a.m. that power had been restored, but Mount Pleasant police said crews were still working through the morning to restore service after the collapse. Traffic on Highway 41 was moving by 6:55 a.m., yet traffic lights were still out at Highway 17 at 41, Highway 17 at Winnowing and Highway 41 at Bessemer.
The outage affected residents along Highway 41 and Highway 17, turning a routine Thursday commute into a stop-and-go crawl at several busy intersections. Dominion Energy’s outage map showed the scope early, with about 1,120 customers without power as of 5 a.m., as the tree kept crews tied up along the roadside.
Brad Franko said Highway 41 southbound was blocked while Dominion Energy crews worked to clear the fallen tree, and that delay lingered even after traffic started moving again. The gap between restored power and dark signals left the morning with one clear answer: the electricity was back, but the disruption was not over when the first commuters hit the road.
