Jovana Nogić has signed with the Phoenix Mercury and is set to play in the WNBA, a move that sends the Belgrade native into the strongest basketball league in the world. She will join Serbian players Anđela Dugalić and Nikolina Milić in the competition.
Nogić arrives with a résumé built across Europe and a first taste of basketball in the United States. She played for Providence University before continuing her career with Kadi la Seu, Tenerife, Kampos Promete, Avijenda, Bešiktaš and Jekaterinburg, where she won two Russian league championships.
That previous spell in the United States matters because it gives her some familiarity with the country and the demands of the game there. For the Mercury, it adds a player who has already won at a high level and has spent years moving between top clubs on both sides of the Atlantic.
The opportunity also fits into a small but growing Serbian presence in the WNBA. Nogić’s path now leads from Belgrade to Phoenix, and from a long list of European stops to the league she has reached after years of building toward this moment.
