Welcome to Rockville reopened its gates in Daytona Beach on Friday night after severe weather pushed the festival to pause operations. Organizers first told visitors to calmly head to the nearest exit, then announced shortly after 8:30 p.m. that entry had resumed and performances would follow shortly.
The response varied depending on where people were inside the venue. Camped visitors were told to return to the campgrounds and shelter in their vehicles. Parked visitors were told to leave the venue and take shelter in their vehicles or in the grandstands at the Turn 1 Entrance. All other attendees were directed to get out and seek shelter in the grandstands.
The interruption came after a severe weather alert was issued for Northeastern Volusia County shortly before 7 p.m. on Friday. That alert expired around 7:45 p.m., clearing the way for organizers to reopen the gates less than an hour later. The weather-related pause hit a festival built around momentum, and the restart meant the crowd could begin moving back toward the night’s lineup rather than waiting out the storm indefinitely.
What mattered most was that the shutdown was temporary. Once the alert passed, organizers moved quickly to reopen the venue and said performances would resume shortly, ending the uncertainty that had sent campers, parked visitors and other attendees into shelter just as the evening was getting underway.
