Miguel Rojas said his years in Miami helped turn him from an everyday player into someone comfortable in a bench and platoon role, a shift that has become part of the Dodgers' current roster conversation. He made the comments Tuesday before the game on TNT, speaking with former Marlins teammate and former Dodger Curtis Granderson.
Rojas said the move away from playing every day was shaped by experience and the chance he got with the Marlins. “I think it’s just the experience; the opportunity I had to go to Miami and kind of set myself and give myself an opportunity to play everyday,” he said. “A lot of things that happened throughout my career shaped me as not just the player that I am right now, but the leader, the example, the good teammate.” He added, “That’s what I wanted to do” and “I always wanted to grow into a position like this.”
That self-assessment comes as the Dodgers confront a pitching decision that could alter their rotation later this month. Blake Snell is set to return after one more rehab start in Triple-A, while Tyler Glasnow's next turn is uncertain, leaving the team with more starting pitchers than obvious slots. Manager Dave Roberts said “there’s a lot of different ways we can go,” and added that if the club reaches that point, “it’s going to be a good conversation, a tougher conversation with someone.”
One reason the discussion has become more pressing is Justin Wrobleski, who has forced his way into the picture after entering the 2026 season with limited starting experience. He made one relief appearance against the Cleveland Guardians before making his first start against the Toronto Blue Jays, and he now leads the Dodgers with five wins. Over 36 innings, opposing hitters have batted.197 against him with zero home runs, a sign that the left-hander's work has held up far better than his early career numbers suggested.
Wrobleski's rise also gives the Dodgers a harder choice than they expected when the year began. Over his first two seasons, he made eight starts and posted a 6.55 ERA over 45 1/3 innings, but this season he has covered 30 innings with 15 strikeouts and a six percent barreling rate while allowing a.222 batting average on balls in play. On Sunday, he delivered the only scoreless performance the Dodgers got from their rotation on the most recent road trip, strengthening the case that he belongs in the mix even after Snell returns. The club is scheduled to have four starting pitchers competing for the available work, and Roberts' next decision could determine whether Wrobleski stays or another arm gets bumped. A related roster move already showed how quickly the picture can change, when Hyeseong Kim stepped in after the Dodgers scratched Rojas for a family matter.
For Rojas, the conversation is a reminder of how long his own path has been. For the Dodgers, it is a matter of fitting in a pitcher who has outperformed expectations without forcing out the one who has earned the most trust.
