The Texas Rangers will turn to Jack Leiter on Sunday night when they face the Detroit Tigers in the rubber match of their weekend series at Comerica Park. First pitch is set for 7:20 p.m. ET.
Detroit evened the series with a 5-1 win Saturday night, setting up a decisive finale between teams that split the first two games. Tyler Holton is expected to start for the Tigers because Casey Mize is on the injured list with a groin injury.
Leiter has given Texas at least five innings in five of his six starts in 2026, a sign of the steady workload the Rangers have gotten from him. He opened the season by allowing just three runs in his first 11 innings, but over his last 20 1/3 innings he has posted a 6.64 ERA and 6.53 FIP.
The matchup also carries a bit of history. Leiter’s last appearance against Detroit came in his major league debut on April 4, 2024, in Detroit, when he allowed seven runs on eight hits and three walks while striking out three over 3 2/3 innings in a 9-7 Rangers loss.
Sunday gives Leiter a chance to reset that memory in the same ballpark. For Texas, it is also a chance to leave Detroit with the series after a game that has become more important because both teams have already shown they can take turns answering back.
The game will be broadcast on the NBC Network and Peacock.
