Bernie Kosar said Saturday morning that he was back in the hospital for another procedure, marking the latest in a string of medical setbacks since his liver transplant. In a Facebook video, Kosar said, “Going a little to hard. Found my way back into the hospital. Lets get this procedure over with and have a winning day. See you next week. UMatter.”
Kosar was diagnosed with liver failure and Parkinson’s disease in summer 2024, then had a liver transplant on Nov. 17, 2025. Since then, he has been treated for E. coli blood poisoning in December 2025 and was hospitalized again in early January after what he described as a small rejection of the transplant.
The transplant came from Bryce Dunlap, 21, of North Olmsted, who died unexpectedly from complications from an anoxic brain injury. Kosar publicly thanked Dunlap’s family on Facebook and called the transplant a “great gift.”
The Saturday hospital update came two days after Kosar appeared Thursday at the groundbreaking for the new Cleveland Browns stadium in Brook Park, where he said it was a “big night to be apart of.” For now, his post suggests another procedure is underway and that the former quarterback is once again trying to push through a difficult recovery that has kept sending him back to the hospital.
