The Cadillac Championship is being played at Trump National Doral in Miami, and Cameron Young took a five-shot lead into the weekend after 36 holes. On a 7,700-yard layout, Young went 31 holes before making a single bogey.
Young’s position mattered because he was in the marquee pairing with Scottie Scheffler, the world No. 1, during a week when the tournament site had another major player across town: Formula 1 was setting up shop in Miami. The leaderboard put Young in command after a run that has now carried from his near-miss at the 2022 PGA Championship at Southern Hills, to his first PGA Tour win at last year’s Wyndham Championship, and then to victory at THE PLAYERS Championship in March.
Scheffler said he felt like he gave himself more looks on Friday than he had the day before, especially on the back nine, and added that if he keeps doing that over the next couple of days, he thinks he will be in a decent spot. That leaves Young with the clearest advantage heading into the weekend, but it also sets up a test: holding a lead this large in a field that has already shown how quickly pressure can build around him.
