Soekarno-Hatta International Airport reported an airport roof collapse on Monday after heavy rainfall and potential windshear disrupted arrivals and forced 12 flights to divert. Yudistiawan, assistant deputy of communication and legal at PT Angkasa Pura Indonesia (InJourney Airports), said the weather affected several flight movements during landing.
Soekarno-Hatta Airport Diversions
Yudistiawan said the Airport Operation Control Centre recorded 14 flights in holding patterns, 13 go-arounds, and one aircraft that returned to the apron. He said, "The conditions have affected several flight movements, particularly during the landing phase at Soekarno-Hatta Airport".
The airport said the diversions were a safety precaution. The figure of 12 diverted flights was the clearest operational impact reported from the weather disruption, while the holding patterns and go-arounds show that several arrivals were unable to complete their first landing attempt.
Terminal 3 Gate 7 Damage
The weather also caused minor damage to a section of the roof at the Boarding Lounge Gate 7 area of Terminal 3. Videos of the damage circulated on social media, but the airport said all airside facilities, including the runway, taxiway and apron, were in good condition and fully operational.
Yudistiawan said, "Flight safety and security remain the top priority in every operational decision". The airport also said there was no standing water affecting aircraft movements, and that the situation had stabilised while operations continued as normal.
April 6 Operations
The confirmed details leave one practical question for passengers with the clearest answer: the airport said airside operations were still functioning normally after the disruption. What remains unresolved in the source is whether every affected flight recovered its schedule on Monday, since the record only confirms the diversions, holds, go-arounds and apron return.
