said on April 22, 2026, that rumors tying her to were false and that the fallout turned ugly fast. The 2021 champion said she and Thompson know each other through professional basketball, but she would not have considered him a friend, and she said she does not know at all.

Brown said she had been waiting for someone else on the other side of the situation to step in and shut the rumors down. Instead, she said she was left alone to insist the claims were 100% false while people dragged her name through the mud. “I wouldn't have minded if either one of them came out and said it because at the end of the day, they're the ones that are in the relationship, they're the ones who are dealing with this, and they're the ones who are communicating with each other. So one of them, if not both of them know that it was not me,” she said.

The rumors began spreading in 2025, centering on Brown, Thompson and Megan Thee Stallion, and Brown said she was expecting the truth to come from that side. “The truth is over there somewhere, and I was expecting it to reveal itself from that side of it... for them to just allow me to get dragged, for a lot of people to allow me to get dragged through the mud... it was just really disappointing,” she said. Brown said she played through a WNBA preseason game while thinking someone would correct the record, but by the time the game ended, no one had.

That silence, she said, came with a cost that went far beyond gossip. Brown said she received threats on her life and health, and that comments and threats started landing on her family as well. She said she eventually had to hire security to travel with her places because she was scared for herself.

Brown said she still believes she is the only person who has publicly denied any involvement and called the situation 100% false. “I'm still the only person that has denied this entire situation of my involvement and claimed that this is 100% false. And the fact that I'm still the only one that is defending my name, I just I have no idea how to process that,” she said, adding that she was especially troubled by what she saw as a contradiction with broader calls to protect Black women.

Her father, , who played in the , said the attacks on his daughter had taken a toll on the family. “As a father, watching the negative, hateful, and most importantly, false attacks lobbed at my daughter has been debilitating,” he said. For Lexie Brown, the issue is no longer just whether the rumor was wrong. Her statement makes clear she believes the damage came from being left exposed while the rumor kept moving without anyone with direct knowledge publicly stopping it.
