Mega Mewtwo X and Mega Mewtwo Y will finally arrive in Pokémon Go during Go Fest 2026, with the pair set to debut in Super Mega Raids when the free global event runs on 11th and 12th July. Players who beat those raids will have a chance to catch a normal Mewtwo and earn either Mega Energy X or Mega Energy Y, depending on which version they face.
Niantic said Go Fest 2026: Global will be free for all players and will include access to a Special Research quest, along with increased shiny Pokémon spawns as a bonus. For players attending the in-person events in Tokyo, Chicago and Copenhagen, the chance to obtain Mega Mewtwo will come earlier through a Timed Research quest, while each park session ends with a special Mega Mewtwo Super Mega Raid that can be tackled by more than 1,000 players at once.
The announcement ends a long wait that began when Mega Evolution was added to Pokémon Go in 2020. Hopes flared again in 2021, when Mega Mewtwo X appeared in key art for the game's fifth anniversary, but the subject then went quiet until January of this year, when assets for both Mega Mewtwo X and Y were pushed. That silence made the eventual reveal feel overdue, even if it was never out of place: Go Fest 2026 marks the game's tenth anniversary, and putting both forms there gives the celebration a clear headline.
What comes next is simple enough for players and hard enough in practice. Those at the live events will get their first shot earlier, but the rest of the world will still be waiting for the July global rollout, where Super Mega Raids are the only path to Mega Mewtwo X and Y. For a pair that has hovered over the game for years, the answer is now fixed on a date.
