French Broad Chocolates PBC is recalling select bonbon collections sold nationwide after a labeling error failed to disclose walnuts, the company said in an announcement published by the Food and Drug Administration. The recall covers Bette’s Bake Sale Bonbon Collection boxes in 6-piece, 12-piece and 24-piece sizes.
The recalled products were distributed from April 14, 2026, through April 20, 2026, and include batch numbers 260414 and 260417. The affected boxes are 2.5 oz., 5 oz. and 10 oz. packages with best by dates ranging from June 22, 2026, to June 30, 2026, depending on the batch.
French Broad Chocolates said people with a walnut allergy or severe walnut sensitivity could face a serious or life-threatening reaction if they eat the bonbons. No illnesses have been reported to date, according to the company.
The problem stems from a mistake in the tasting notes insert, which failed to identify walnuts as a tree nut allergen. In the printed guide, the Walnut Fudge bonbon, which contains walnuts, was incorrectly identified and switched with the Peach Cobbler bonbon. The company said it was notified of the error on April 20, 2026, by a team member.
The chocolates were sold in French Broad Chocolates retail stores in Asheville, North Carolina, and online to customers in multiple states. The recall matters because the mislabeled boxes were already in consumers’ hands for days before the issue was caught, leaving walnut-allergic buyers dependent on the notice to keep them from eating a product that does contain the allergen.
Consumers with the recalled boxes should not eat them and should follow the company’s recall instructions. The notice answers the key question plainly: the risk is limited to people with walnut allergies or severe walnut sensitivity, and French Broad Chocolates says it has not seen any illnesses so far.
