Nils Machowski committed to UConn on Tuesday afternoon, giving the Huskies a 6-foot-3 guard who will be in his third program in four seasons.
Machowski is coming off a breakout year at Wofford, where he averaged 17.2 points and 5.7 rebounds per game while finishing second on the team in scoring. Before that, he spent two seasons at UCF, appearing in 56 games and averaging 2.9 points and 1.7 rebounds per game.
The move makes Machowski UConn's fourth addition out of the transfer portal, joining Stanford forward Oskar Giltay, Seton Hall forward Najai Hines and Duke guard Nik Khamenia. He also gives the Huskies another piece alongside returnees Silas Demary Jr. and Braylon Mullins as they shape next season's roster.
The timing matters because UConn is building toward a team that has a strong shot at another Final Four run next season, which would be the fourth time in the past five seasons. Machowski's scoring jump at Wofford suggests UConn is betting that his production can travel with him again, even after a career that has already taken him through UCF and Wofford in quick succession.
