The San Francisco 49ers traded down from No. 27 to No. 30 and added another Day 2 pick during the first round of the 2026 NFL Draft, only to move again moments later. The team sent No. 27 and No. 138 to the Miami Dolphins and got No. 30 plus No. 90, then flipped No. 30 to the New York Jets for No. 33 and No. 179.
The first deal gave San Francisco a little more room to work. The second gave it a stronger return in the middle of the draft, with the added third-round selection at No. 90 giving the team extra flexibility as it continues to build depth across the roster. The No. 30 pick San Francisco acquired from Miami had originally belonged to the Denver Broncos, while No. 90 came from the Houston Texans.
For the 49ers, the night became less about staying put and more about stacking options. Moving from No. 27 to No. 33 meant giving up six spots in the first round, but San Francisco turned that slide into an extra third-round choice and another late-round pick, a clear sign the club valued volume as much as position while the draft was still unfolding.
The back-to-back trades left the 49ers with more selections and more paths to work with once the second and third rounds begin. That is the part that matters now: San Francisco did not just trade down once, it used the opening round to keep reshaping its board and increase the number of chances it will have to add talent.
