The NFL Draft stage will be set just outside Acrisure Stadium on Thursday night, putting Pittsburgh at the center of the 2026 NFL Draft and giving the city a showcase it has spent months preparing for.
The Steelers will also use Wednesday night to launch a new chapter of their offseason. “Forging Steel” premieres on all team digital and social channels at 7 p.m. ET on April 22, with the episode highlighting the hiring of coach Mike McCarthy, his new staff, free agency and draft preparation.
Dan Rooney said the club is excited that Pittsburgh will be presented to a national audience, calling it a special moment and saying it is the biggest event in Pennsylvania’s history. He said the Steelers are thrilled that the city will be showcased to the world to tell its story. McCarthy, who is featured in the video, said returning as the head coach of the Pittsburgh Steelers felt surreal and called it a true blessing, something he had not expected at this point in his career.
The timing matters because the city is not just hosting the draft; it is using the run-up to sell a bigger idea about where the franchise is headed. McCarthy said the draft is special and said it will be a special weekend for Pittsburgh, adding that the world will see what football means to Western Pennsylvania. He also said, “The Draft is your bloodline, and it will be our bloodline,” and that having 12 picks is exactly what the team wants.
That number gives the Steelers room to shape the roster in public, while the league’s stage outside Acrisure Stadium puts every move under a brighter light. Hall of Famers and legendary Steelers will announce the team’s 2026 draft picks from the Draft Theater and Main Stage, and the club’s Draft Day Lookback will revisit members of the Hall of Honor on the day they were drafted by Pittsburgh. McCarthy said the draft class will play a big impact in the future of the Pittsburgh Steelers.
For Pittsburgh, the weekend is both celebration and audition. The city gets the event; the Steelers get the platform; and by the time the first pick is announced, the franchise will have made clear that it wants its next era to begin in full view of the football world.
