Paris Saint-Germain will try to put Sunday’s loss to Lyon behind them when they welcome Nantes to the Parc des Princes on Wednesday night in Ligue 1. PSG were beaten 2-1 over the weekend, while Nantes arrive after a 1-1 draw with Brest and with little margin left in their fight to stay afloat.
PSG are a point above Lens with a game in hand and still control their own title race, but the defeat in Lyon showed how quickly that edge can narrow. Khvicha Kvaratskhelia scored a consolation goal and Goncalo Ramos had a first-half penalty saved, two moments that summed up a night when PSG could not turn pressure into points.
The numbers still lean heavily toward Paris. PSG have a 100% record in the top flight this season when leading at half-time, and four of their five domestic defeats have come when they were behind after 45 minutes. They have also won every league match against teams currently in the bottom three this season, posting three clean sheets in those four games, a record that makes Wednesday look more like a test of focus than of quality.
Nantes need something from it for reasons that go beyond pride. They are second from the bottom, five points below Auxerre for the relegation playoffs with five matches remaining, and nine points behind Nice for a guaranteed place in Ligue 1 next season. Away from home, they have not scored in their last three league matches and have failed to find the net seven times on the road in Ligue 1 in 2025-26.
PSG have also had Nantes’ number in recent meetings. They are unbeaten in eight straight meetings across all competitions and won 1-0 when the sides last met at Stade de la Beaujoire earlier in the campaign. Nantes have taken points in two of their last three league meetings with PSG, but they have not won at the Parc des Princes since 2022, when they claimed a 2-1 victory.
Injuries could still shape PSG’s night. Fabian Ruiz may miss the squad because of a knee issue, and Nuno Mendes is questionable with a knock, though Desire Doue and Bradley Barcola both featured on Sunday despite recent fitness problems. PSG’s recent record against bottom-three teams and Nantes’ struggles for away goals point in the same direction, but the gap between a title chase and a relegation scrap often looks smaller when the first mistake arrives.
