Two people were killed late Sunday when a motorcycle and an SUV collided at Imperial Parkway and East Terry Street in Bonita Springs, after troopers said the SUV turned left into the motorcycle's path while both drivers had a green light. The crash happened at 10:23 p.m., and the rider was trapped on the SUV's passenger side after impact.
The Florida Highway Patrol said the motorcycle was traveling north on Imperial Parkway at a high rate of speed when the SUV approached the intersection heading south in a left-turn lane. Troopers said the front of the motorcycle struck the SUV's front-right side, killing the 18-year-old Fort Myers rider and the 55-year-old Bonita Springs woman riding in the SUV.
The SUV driver, a 65-year-old Bonita Springs man, was taken to Gulf Coast Medical Center with minor injuries. The crash adds another violent scene to an intersection where speed, timing and a left turn came together in seconds, leaving two families to absorb the loss and one driver headed to the hospital.
For anyone later seeking a motorcycle accident attorney, the details that matter are already clear in the state patrol's account: the motorcycle was moving fast, both vehicles had green signals, and the SUV entered the bike's path during the turn. The remaining questions are less about what happened than about the consequences that follow a crash that claimed two lives at the scene.
