Seattle police are investigating a stabbing near the 1700 block of North 107th Street after officers found a man with a stab wound to his chest Monday morning. The call came in at about 8:50 a.m., and police said the suspect had already left the area before they arrived.

The victim was taken to Harborview Medical Center and was listed in stable condition. Police described the incident as a stranger on stranger stabbing that occurred on the border of a nearby tent encampment.

What led up to the assault has not been explained, and investigators are still trying to piece together how the confrontation began near the encampment. The suspect was believed to be in his 30s, but a search of the area did not turn him up.
