A man has been arrested and charged in connection with a deadly shooting in the town limits of Snelling in Barnwell County, the Barnwell County Sheriff’s Office said Friday. Justin Lee Satterthwaite faces charges of murder, attempted murder, possession of a weapon during a violent crime and shooting into an occupied vehicle.
Deputies responded to the scene on April 12 and found a male victim with a gunshot wound, authorities said. The victim was taken to the Barnwell Bamberg Emergency Medical Center and later pronounced dead.
The arrest brings more than one charge into the case, including accusations tied to an occupied vehicle, not just the fatal shooting itself. That means investigators say the April 12 incident in Barnwell County reached beyond a single deadly encounter and into a broader violent event.
Friday’s announcement is the first public sign of an arrest in the case, but it does not close the questions around what led to the shooting in Snelling or why the confrontation escalated. What is clear is that Satterthwaite is now facing the most serious charges available in connection with the death.
