Dallas police cordoned off a stretch of downtown on Tuesday afternoon after a suspicious package was reported in the 900 block of Pacific Avenue near the city’s historic West End district. Dallas College El Centro campus was placed on lockdown because of the nearby investigation.
The suspicious package turned out to be an SUV parked at the intersection, and the Dallas Police bomb squad used a charge to pop open its rear lift. Once inside, officers pulled out a sword.
The all-clear came just before 1:30 p.m., and all roadways were allowed to reopen. The heavy police response had already snarled traffic across the downtown core, but the scene had cleared by early afternoon.
Police said the investigation remained ongoing after the area was reopened. For drivers, students and workers downtown, the answer to the dallas bomb threat scare was simple: the scene was safe to reopen, but the police work was not yet finished.
