Gavin Doty has committed to Syracuse, giving Gerry McNamara a proven scorer and rebounder for next season. CBS Sports' Jon Rothstein reported the move on April 7, 2026, saying the Siena transfer was headed to the Orange.
Doty, a 6-foot-5 guard from Fulton, New York, averaged 18 points, 6.9 rebounds and 2.2 assists per game last season for Siena. He was named First-Team All-MAAC and earned MAAC Tournament MVP honors after helping Siena secure the automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
That postseason run gave Doty a national stage, and Siena pushed Duke all it could handle in the NCAA Tournament. He also arrives in Syracuse as an 83.6% career free throw shooter, a number that suggests he can steady a game when possessions tighten late.
McNamara has been linked to this kind of addition since taking over as head coach, and Doty fits the profile of a player expected to help set the tone in the program. He has the size, production and conference honors to arrive with immediate credibility, and Syracuse now has one of the more polished transfers available from the MAAC.
The next question is how quickly Doty translates that production to a bigger stage. Syracuse is not getting a project. It is getting a guard who has already carried a team through a tournament run and now has to do it again in a different uniform.
