South Bend police arrested a 44-year-old woman in connection with a shooting Wednesday night in the 600 block of South 36th Street. Diana Bright is being held in the St. Joseph County Jail while she awaits formal charges from the prosecutor.
Police said officers were sent to the area at 10:30 p.m. after a report of gunfire. When they arrived, they found a man suffering from an apparent gunshot wound and took him to the hospital with a non-life-threatening injury.
Bright was later identified as a suspect and arrested, police said. The case adds to the concern around shootings in South Bend, where one person was detained and another was injured in a separate shooting-related incident mentioned in connection with the report.
The arrest gives investigators a suspect, but the final decision now sits with the prosecutor, who must decide what charges to file. Until then, Bright remains in jail and the shooting is still moving through the next step of the justice process.
