Honda is recalling about 440,000 Odyssey minivans in the United States after saying side airbags in some models could deploy unexpectedly if the vehicle hits a pothole or speed bump hard enough.
The voluntary Honda Odyssey airbag recall covers minivans from the 2018 through 2022 model years, and Honda said the defect has been linked to 25 injuries. No deaths have been reported.
Honda said the problem comes from an airbag module with an overly sensitive deployment threshold. Harsh underbody impacts from potholes, speed bumps or road debris can trigger the side curtain or side airbags, turning an ordinary jolt into a dangerous one for drivers and passengers.
Owners are being asked to take their Odyssey to an authorized dealer, where Honda says the airbag module will be reprogrammed or replaced. Registered owners will be contacted by mail, and owners can also check whether their minivan is affected by calling 888-234-2138 or visiting
The recall lands now because the risk is not tied to a rare crash sequence or a distant manufacturing problem; it is tied to the kind of road damage many drivers meet in daily use. That makes the fix urgent, even though Honda has not reported any deaths. For owners of an affected Odyssey, the next step is simple: wait for the notice, or check the vehicle immediately and get the repair done.
