The San Francisco 49ers traded with Dallas for defensive tackle Osa Odighizuwa, and the move quickly won praise around the league during the 2026 offseason.

Mike Sando of The Athletic said, “One move everyone liked: adding Osa Odighizuwa to the defensive line via trade with Dallas,” while discussing San Francisco’s offseason with NFL executives. One of those executives called it “a good get and a total upgrade.”

The reaction matters because Odighizuwa, 27, has built a reputation as a pass-rushing interior lineman. He has 17 sacks in his NFL career, and for a 49ers front that wanted more impact in the middle, that gives them a proven piece to pair with the rest of the defense.

The trade also fits into a broader offseason push for San Francisco. The team made several other moves, including a Mike Evans signing and a Dre Greenlaw reacquisition, and the front office still has room to keep working. Even with Odighizuwa in place, the 49ers could still need better edge rusher help, which leaves wide receiver, edge and defensive back as spots they can keep addressing in the NFL Draft, the trade market and free agency.

That gives San Francisco flexibility, but it also leaves one part of the roster unfinished. The 49ers got the interior help executives liked. They still have to decide how much more they want to spend to make the pass rush complete.
