The Las Vegas Aces signed Chennedy Carter to a training camp contract on April 15, giving the veteran point guard a chance to earn a spot with the WNBA champions after a year away from the league.
Carter, who averaged 17.5 points per game on 48.7% shooting from the field with the Chicago Sky in 2024, did not play in the WNBA in 2025 and instead competed in Mexico's women's basketball league. The Aces are coming off a sweep of the Phoenix Mercury in the 2025 WNBA Finals, a run that delivered their third WNBA championship in the last four years.
The move adds another name to a roster that already brought back A'ja Wilson and retained Jackie Young, Chelsea Gray and Jewell Loyd in free agency. Las Vegas had limited bench depth after spending heavily on star contracts, making every training camp spot matter as the team tries to stay atop the league.
Carter’s talent has never been in question. Atlanta drafted her with the No. 4 pick in the 2020 WNBA Draft, but her path in the league has also been marked by turbulence. The Dream suspended her during the 2021 season after she stayed in the locker room for the second half of a game, and Courtney Williams later called her out for not cheering on her teammates. Carter reportedly approached Williams after the game and asked to fight her.
That history is what makes this chance notable. The Aces are not offering a guarantee, only an opening, and Carter arrives with enough scoring ability to help and enough baggage to make camp one of the more closely watched auditions of the spring.
