Winnebago County Sheriff’s Office detectives are investigating a death in South Beloit after deputies were sent Tuesday around 11:20 a.m. to a report of a dead body found in a wooded area near the 700 block of Dearborn Avenue.
The county said there was no sign of suspicious activity. An autopsy will be conducted to determine the cause of death, and the case remains limited to a reported body discovery and the start of a death investigation.
For now, that is the central fact: investigators have not said the death was suspicious, and the cause has not yet been determined. The autopsy is the next step, and it is the one expected to provide the first clear answer about how the person died.
The discovery came Tuesday in South Beloit, where deputies responded to the wooded area near Dearborn Avenue after the report came in. The sheriff’s office said detectives took over the investigation after the body was found.
What happens next is straightforward. The autopsy will be performed, and until that result comes back, officials have only said they are investigating a death with no sign of suspicious activity.
