Vice President JD Vance said Erika Kirk did not attend a Turning Point USA event at the University of Georgia on Tuesday night because she received threats ahead of the gathering. The appearance was part of a national college tour organized by the conservative youth group founded by her late husband, Charlie Kirk.
Vance’s account put a sharper edge on a tour that has kept moving even after Charlie Kirk was shot and killed in September 2025 while speaking at a Turning Point USA event at Utah Valley University. After his death, Erika Kirk took over leadership of the organization, and since then she has appeared at political events nationwide in a more prominent public role.
That public role has unfolded alongside the criminal case against Tyler Robinson, whom prosecutors say carried out the rooftop attack. Robinson remains in custody and faces multiple charges, including aggravated murder. If convicted, he could face the death penalty. The killing drew national attention and left Turning Point USA trying to push ahead with its campus activities even as its leadership became a target.
The Georgia event showed that tension plainly. Turning Point USA pressed forward with the college tour, but the woman now leading the group stayed away after threats, according to Vance. For Erika Kirk, the question is no longer whether she will be part of the organization’s future. It is how publicly she can lead it while the aftermath of her husband’s killing still hangs over every appearance.
