Nuno Mendes is admired in Barcelona, but a move for the Paris Saint-Germain left back is currently off the table unless he asks to leave. The 23-year-old is regarded as one of the best players in the world in his position, and that alone explains why the talk around him keeps surfacing.
According to information from the X account Topskills Sports UK, Barcelona’s German coach particularly likes Mendes’s profile. Even so, the club’s leadership knows the transfer is impossible for now without a push from the player himself, which is why it would not be surprising to see Barcelona turn toward a new left back next summer.
That discussion comes as PSG were in Champions League action on Tuesday night on Liverpool’s pitch, starting the match with an advantage after Liverpool had won the first leg 2-0. Barcelona know the scale of the task that kind of result creates, because a team in that position needs to pull off a true feat to qualify.
The interest also says something about where Barcelona are looking. Mendes is one of PSG’s key players and one of the best fullbacks in the game, so any realistic path away from Paris would depend less on recruitment than on the player changing the situation himself. For now, Barcelona can admire him from a distance and plan for a different answer at left back when next summer arrives.
