Javier Mascherano resigned Tuesday as Inter Miami’s coach for personal reasons, ending a run that delivered the club’s first league title and one of the strongest seasons in its short history.
Mascherano said in a statement that he had decided to put an end to his time as Inter Miami coach for personal reasons. He thanked the club, its employees, the players, the fans and La Familia, and said he would always carry the memory of the team’s first star. Jorge Mas said Javier Mascherano would always be part of Inter Miami CF history and praised him as a key figure in the club’s MLS Cup victory and its run to the round of 16 at the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup.
The departure comes after a 2025 campaign in which Inter Miami scored 101 goals, the most in a single MLS season in league history. The club also reached the semifinals of the Concacaf Champions Cup and the final of the Leagues Cup, while beating Porto and drawing with Palmeiras to advance at the Club World Cup. Mascherano had been under contract through 2027, but the club said the split was tied to personal reasons rather than a sporting dismissal.
Mascherano left Miami together with the coaching staff that arrived with him in January 2024. Guillermo Hoyos will take over as first-team coach in the next matches, leaving Inter Miami to try to carry forward the standard Mascherano helped set while moving into the next stage of the season without him.
