Comcast is set to begin sending payments tied to a 2023 data breach, and affected people can file claims now for a share of the $117.5 million settlement. The breach came after hackers exploited a critical Citrix vulnerability and spent three days inside Comcast systems, where they stole names, contact information, dates of birth and other sensitive customer information.
The settlement is still awaiting final approval from the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania on July 7, but claim forms are already being reviewed ahead of the August 14 deadline. Comcast says the hackers did not take financial data, yet the eligible pool is large: people who previously received a Comcast data breach notice are among the 31.6 million who can seek payment.
The case follows a breach that exposed customer information without reaching payment records, a distinction that matters because the settlement is designed to address the loss of personal data rather than direct financial theft. That leaves many claimants weighing whether to file before the deadline for a payment that may be modest once divided among millions of people.
What happens next is straightforward. If the court grants final approval on July 7, Comcast can move ahead with the settlement process, and anyone covered by the notice has until August 14 to submit a claim for review.
