Denzel Aberdeen has entered the NCAA transfer portal after one season in Lexington, according to a report by On3’s Pete Nakos. The Kentucky guard is now looking for a third school in what would be a fifth season of college basketball.
The move sends Aberdeen back into a market where he is already known. Kentucky welcomed him after he chose to leave Florida, an SEC rival where he had spent three seasons and helped win a national championship before making the jump to Lexington.
Aberdeen’s path has been steady, if not linear. Out of high school, the Orlando native committed to Florida, then grew into a larger role over time. In 39 games for the Gators, he averaged 7.7 points, 1.7 rebounds and 1.4 assists, and he started five of those games.

By the time he arrived at Kentucky, Mark Pope was already publicly praising what Aberdeen brought. Pope said early in the season that Aberdeen was “awesome,” and described him as a player who does not carry emotional weight from play to play, a trait Pope said helped him function at a high level in difficult road environments.
That trait matters now because Aberdeen has already played in four college seasons, which raises the practical question of what comes next and whether he will have a clear path to keep playing. The portal entry does not answer that. It only makes the next step more urgent.

For Kentucky, the departure removes a player it had only just brought in from a conference rival. For Aberdeen, it opens another turn in a career that has already taken him from Florida to Kentucky and now back into the search for a new home.
